Inspired by my sister-in-law's dedication to a perfect at-home manicure, I have been experimenting with "behind the scenes" products (read: not the nail color itself) that will improve the job. My new holy trinity is Essie RFBC, China Glaze Fast Forward top coat and Sally Hansen Nail Nutrition Green Tea + Soy Cuticle Oil. The base coat was my first major discovery - it dries quickly, leaves nails positively smooth and provides just the right amount of grip for your nail color. I've tried to cheap out with other base coats and always go back to Essie.

This seemingly innocent brand was surprisingly good as a ridge filler. After removal of acrylic nails, mine were had a rough surface, despite sanding, and this product did the trick so that nail polish looks good on me.

This is the first ridge-filler I have used. From my personal experience, I don't have a reason to look for another. I have ridges and peeling on the surface of my nails, no matter how much I pamper them. I originally bought this just to fill my ridges, but it also completely smoothes the peeling near the tips of my nails - both physically and *visually* - this is was the surprise - after applying this basecoat, all of the white areas where the nail is peeling disappeared, making my nail one solid healthy color, while the product still remained a transparent basecoat. Incredible! It really works like liquid foundation for the face (which Essie claims). If you like the naked nail look, but aren't happy with the condition of your nails, give this a try. Don't let the peach opacity of the polish in the bottle mislead you, once applied to the nail it is completely transparent (as opposed to sheer nail polish, which is more opaque and leaves an obvious layer of product on the nail). The finish is just a little more shiny than matte, and I find the performance is best when a generous coating is applied to the nail. ALSO, this basecoat makes my nail polish last longer than any other basecoat I have tried - which is actually the most important feature to me.

I developed some nail ridges recently and nothing diet-wise is helping. Also tried other ridge fillers and strengtheners....nothing worked. Saw this one in a magazine, but I guess my store didn't have it at the time so I bought something else, which also didn't last. Did find it eventually and, so far it's making my manicure last more than just a couple of days and fills in the ridges fairly well. I was a 20 year tip and wrap person, who moved to SC and can't find any decent nail techs, so it's natural nails for me now. This stuff works great.
